GWEN TANIGUCHI

I help founder-led companies become more capable, more reliable, and less dependent on the person who built them.

I'm the founder of The Operating Standard, a partner at Peek Advisory Group, and a Certified Exit Planning Advisor.

My work sits at the intersection of leadership, operations, financial decisions, and business value. I look at how those pieces work together, where they quietly break down, and what it takes to build a company that can operate beyond the founder.

CAPABILITY ㆍ OWNERSHIP ㆍ EXECUTION ㆍ BUSINESS VALUE

Building stronger companies through leadership, ownership, and execution.

Most business problems do not stay neatly in one category.

A workflow problem may actually be an ownership problem. A capacity problem may begin with the way decisions are made. A frustrated team may be responding to priorities that were never clearly communicated. And a founder who cannot step away may not need another SOP. They may need a more capable company.

I'm particularly good at seeing those connections.

My work helps owners understand what their business is currently capable of, where execution is breaking down, and what needs to change for the company to grow with greater consistency, confidence, and independence.

WHERE MY WORK LIVES:

THE OPERATING STANDARD

The Operating Standard is my primary body of work for founder-led companies.

Through advisory services, assessments, practical tools, and education, we help companies strengthen the way leadership, ownership, and execution work together.

The goal is not simply to make the business more organized. It is to build a company that can make decisions, develop capable people, follow through reliably, and grow without every issue returning to the founder.

WHAT I THINK ABOUT:

I'm interested in the parts of business that are often discussed separately but rarely operate separately.

Leadership behavior. Decision-making. Team capability. Financial discipline. Ownership. Workflow. Founder dependency. Business value.

These are not isolated issues. Together, they determine whether a company can execute consistently, adapt when things change, and continue growing without exhausting the owner or the team.

A few questions shape much of my work

  • Can the company make sound decisions without everything waiting on the founder?

  • Do people understand what they own, not just what tasks they perform?

  • Is the management team actually equipped to lead?

  • Can the business follow through reliably when priorities shift?

  • Are the company's systems creating capability, or simply organizing dependency?

  • Is growth making the company stronger, or making the founder more essential?

These are the conversations I write about, speak about, and explore through The Operating Standard.

SPEAKING & PODCAST CONVERSATIONS:

Popular conversation topics

  1. Why founder dependency is not just an operations problem

  2. The difference between a helpful team and a capable company

  3. Why accountability problems often begin with unclear ownership

  4. Why hiring an operations manager does not automatically get the founder out of the weeds

  5. What makes a business more transferable and valuable

  6. Why SOPs cannot fix a company that has not decided who owns what

  7. How leadership behavior quietly shapes execution

I speak with business owners, advisors, and leadership communities about what it really takes to build a company that works beyond its founder.

I bring a practical operator's perspective to these conversations, grounded in years of working inside growing companies and helping owners turn persistent frustration into stronger operating infrastructure.

ABOUT GWEN:

I'm an operations advisor, business builder, and Certified Exit Planning Advisor based in San Antonio, Texas.

Throughout my career, I have worked inside founder-led companies to rebuild operating infrastructure, clarify roles and decision rights, strengthen management systems, improve workflows, and develop teams capable of carrying more of the business.

My background is in operations, but I have never viewed operations as a collection of processes and dashboards. The real work is understanding how leadership decisions, financial realities, team behavior, authority, and execution affect one another.

That perspective led me to create The Operating Standard, a company focused on helping founder-led businesses become more capable, more transferable, and less dependent on the founder's constant involvement.

I also serve as a partner at Peek Advisory Group, where my operational perspective complements the firm's work in bookkeeping, financial reporting, and business
