I see the connections between problems that businesses often try to solve separately.
I’m Gwen Taniguchi, an operations advisor, Certified Exit Planning Advisor and founder of The Operating Standard.
For years, I have worked inside founder-led companies helping owners make sense of what was not working and build the operating structure needed to move forward.
That work has included rebuilding client delivery, clarifying roles and decision rights, developing managers, designing workflows, improving internal communication, strengthening financial rhythms, and helping teams take real ownership of the business.
But the work has also taught me something important:
The problem is rarely just the process.
Problems rarely stay in the category we assign them
Workflow:
A workflow problem can begin with a leadership decision.
Accountability:
An accountability problem can begin with unclear ownership.
Capacity:
A capacity problem can come from work being delegated without authority.
Financial:
A financial problem can be made worse by decisions driven by fear, incomplete information, or a founder’s personal priorities.
These issues are usually connected, even when a company is trying to solve them one at a time.
That is where I do my best work. I look for the patterns underneath the visible frustration. I help leaders understand what their business is currently capable of, where it still depends too heavily on them, and what needs to change for the company to operate more reliably.
THE OPERATING STANDARD
I created The Operating Standard to give this work a home that could grow beyond my individual consulting practice.
The Operating Standard helps founder-led companies examine how leadership, ownership, and execution work together. Through assessments, implementation support, workshops, and practical tools, we help companies become more capable, more transferable, and less dependent on the founder’s constant involvement.
The goal is not to make a business look more organized.
The goal is to build a company that can think, decide, execute, and adapt with greater consistency.
A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME
BASED IN SAN ANTONIO, TX

Certified Director of Operations
Certified ClickUp Expert
Pursuing Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
Part of my continued study of how organizations improve, scale, and sustain change.
Professionally, I’m drawn to the uncomfortable space between what a company says should happen and what actually happens day to day.
Personally, I care about faith, family, meaningful work, and building things that are useful enough to outlast the person who created them.
I do not believe every business problem needs another dashboard, more meetings, or a dramatic transformation plan. Sometimes the most meaningful change begins with finally telling the truth about what is not working, who owns it, and what the company needs to become capable of next.
